An exhibition-installation entitled DOME, Experience “Traces”, organised within the framework of Dome Event, is held for two more days at a former hotel, in the heart of Athens. Athens Biennale 2015-2017 OMONOIA, plays2place productions and SYNERGY-O are collaborating for the creation of this installation, which is housed in erstwhile famous hotel Bageion (18, Omonoia Square).
I wasn’t planning on writing something about this exhibition, because I knew that I would visit it just two days before its final curtain. Also, I wasn’t aware of the fact that pictures were allowed. However, now that I’ve come to think of it, a couple of pictures wouldn’t have been enough.
Refugee stories, children drawings, documentaries, photographs, people and real-life objects compose and represent the journey of refugees. From the countries of origin, to the countries of transit and, finally, those of destination, we get the chance to walk with them by thought, learn some of their stories and realise (if we haven’t already) that we can easily end up in their place in the future. The installation’s creators are making good use of all of our five senses and, in combination with a hotel full of memories, create a heavy atmosphere, where sadness and hope co-exist.
You can visit the exhibition today and tomorrow, from 7 to 11 PM (19h-23h). For further information click here. For those who are interested but unable to come, there’s a short video available here (although its atmosphere is far from the original).
